Summer in Buffalo is a blissful time to break out of our shells and be outside. For many musicians this is the busiest season of the year serenading summer outdoor festivities. But for students studying music during the summer, it doesn't have to be a daunting indoor activity.
Creative Time
The extra time off during summer allows people to channel their inner creativity more frequently and easily. It's the perfect opportunity to get in touch with you inner soul and channel those thoughts musically. A relaxed state of mind allows creativity to flow.
Playing Music Is Calming
Anyone living in todays modern world suffers from anxiety. Meditation is one of the healthiest ways to slow down the mind and focus on the present. Another therapeutic way to channel anxiety and calm down is playing a musical instrument. There are many therapeutic benefits that come from enjoying playing a musical instrument.
Learning Patience
Finding enjoyment in being capable of playing favorite songs doesn't come easily. Students spend many years learning the complex language of music before they can begin playing fluently with rhythm and meaning.
A Purpose To Practice
Buffalo music instructor, Katie Ann, has designed a summer curriculum for her piano and voice students to keep them motivated to learn music. Her summer music project consists of a three exciting activities that benefit the Music Is Art foundation. The class is using their talent to specifically raise funds for the kids village at the music is art festival.
Song Requests
Katie Ann takes a break from the regular classical lesson plans to allow students to pick their favorite song requests to learn during her six-week summer course. This allows students to search within and make a choice, deciding for themselves what songs define them musically. Allowing this act of self expression gives students freedom to want to practice.
Talent Benefits Community
Katie Ann's summer activities allow students to have a fun experience and an opportunity to be part of the community, learning that they can help others using their creative talent derived from hard work and the determination of learning the difficult language of music.
